FACULTY Stephen Johnson III BME and MME, Eastern Kentucky University Stephen Johnson III has been a music educator, private teacher, and ensemble coach for more than 30 years. He was director of bands for the Oberlin School District for 25 years, retiring in 2002; his students consistently won superior ratings for their solo, ensemble, and band performances. He also was assistant director of bands in the Massillon, Ohio, school district for two years. Though retired, he continues to serve as a guest conductor. Johnson's professional memberships include the Music Educator's National Conference, Ohio Music Education Association, Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity, and the Society for American Baseball Research. A past president of OMEA District IV, he serves as an adjudicator for events throughout Ohio. He has guest conducted the Lorain County Junior High Honors Band and the OMEA District II Honors Band, and he has been a panelist for presentations at the Ohio Band Director's Conference and the OMEA state convention. He has also performed with the Oberlin College Community Winds. A 1968 graduate of Oberlin High School, Johnson served two years in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army.
