FACULTY Frederick Heyburn BSE, University of Akron MM (saxophone performance), Kent State University Studies for PhD (music theory and composition), Kent State University Frederick Heyburn played English horn, oboe, and saxophone for 17 seasons as a substitute with the Akron Symphony Orchestra and for several seasons with the Canton Symphony Orchestra. During this time he began studying saxophone with Laurence Wyman at the State University of New York at Fredonia and with saxophone virtuoso Sigurd Rascher. His association with Rascher led to performances and recordings with the Rascher Saxophone Ensemble. That ensemble, as well as the Rascher Saxophone Quartet and South German Saxophone Chamber Orchestra, have performed and recorded his arrangements. Heyburn was invited to perform with an ensemble of more than 40 saxophonists from all over the world at a memorial concert following the death of Sigurd Rascher in 2001. On that occasion he also performed in a trio arranged by Seattle composer John David Lamb.
