String pedagogy specialist Joanne Erwin is associate professor and director of music education at the Oberlin Conservatory and founder and director of Oberlin's String Preparatory Program. Formerly cellist with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, she now performs with the Oberlin College Community Strings. Erwin has given presentations at conferences of the American String Teachers Association, the National Association for Music, and the Ohio Music Education Association, and she has conducted summer camps and honor orchestras in several states. A former public-school string teacher in Arlington, Texas, and Danville, Illinois, she also has taught at summer Suzuki Institutes. Erwin has been published in American String Teacher's Journal, Suzuki Journal, and Teaching Music, as well as in the textbook Prelude to Music Education.
