Jessica Downs Oboist Jessica Downs is a former member of The Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, having played second oboe and English horn from 1994-2001. For her contributions to the Orchestra on the English horn, Warren Gerds of the Green Bay Press-Gazette heralded Ms. Downs as “a highlight.” During her time in Wisconsin, Ms. Downs could also be heard in performances with the Fox Valley Symphony and the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra. In April 2000, she performed Quiet City, by acclaimed American composer Aaron Copland, as solo English horn with the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her orchestral positions, Ms. Downs performed chamber music and freelanced extensively throughout Northeastern Wisconsin and was the Instructor of Oboe at the Lawrence University Arts Academy located in Appleton, Wisconsin. As a student, she attended the Aspen Music Festival and the Sarasota Chamber Music Festival. Ms. Downs is a 1994 graduate of The Juilliard School, and her principle teachers include Albert Goltzer and Elaine Douvas. Currently, she is the Instructor of Oboe at the Oberlin Community Music School in Oberlin, Ohio, where she lives with her husband and two daughters, and is pursuing a Master of Music Teaching degree at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
