For Graduating Students

Commencement Weekend this year is Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day). Times listed are Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

A detailed program, along with housing, dining and ticket order forms, will be mailed to graduating seniors and their parents in mid-March. At that time reservations for the various ticketed events, theater productions, meals and on-campus housing can be made. Those who prefer motels to the more spartan residence halls may wish to make room reservations early. The Oberlin College Inn is not available for booking during Commencement Weekend.

The Oberlin Commencement Exercises are held outdoors on Tappan Square at 9:30 AM on Monday, May 26. Unless there is extremely bad weather, the Exercises will be held there as scheduled—bring appropriate rain gear. No tickets are required for outdoor Commencement. The area is handicapped-accessible.

Students who have questions about their eligibility to participate in the Commencement Exercises this year should address them to the Registrar. In general, a student must be registered for work sufficient to complete all requirements for the degree(s) sought by the end of the last semester in residence, in order to be eligible to participate in the annual Commencement Exercises following that semester. Students who have permission to finish their work away from Oberlin may participate in Commencement Exercises only after all requirements have been met. Mid-Year 2007 graduates and their families are invited to participate in all Commencement Weekend festivities, including the ceremony.

Students whose parents are separated or divorced and who wish both parents to receive Commencement mailings need to stop by the Secretary's office (Cox Administration Building - Room 100) with the name and address of the parent not listed with the Registrar as the official guardian. In an effort to protect the privacy of the student, our policy requires that the request must be made by the graduating senior.

Parents and graduates can register online prior to the Commencement ceremony to arrange for notifications to be emailed once photos are available for online viewing and ordering.
