History of the OCDC

Under the auspices of the Ombuds Office, the Design Team was created to take an in depth look at the Oberlin College community and develop a conflict resolution program that would best suit its needs. In consultation with Diane Kenty´77 and Leah Wing´84, they worked part of the fall and entire spring semester doing extensive research that included interviewing students, staff, and faculty. Based on information gathered they developed the plan for The Oberlin College Dialogue Center, a mediation program based on the social-justice model requiring co-mediators to conduct any mediation session. They recommended that the mediation team represent the entire Oberlin College community. With that in mind they recruited, interviewed, and selected 18 students and 7 faculty/staff to be members of OCDC.
