CIT uses a Network Access Control (NAC) product that checks systems connecting to the campus network prior to providing access. This authentication process is used to keep the network as safe as possible from computer virus and worm attacks and spyware. Users connecting for the first time are directed to a CIT web page with the Acceptable Use Policy and a section for logging in, using one's ObieID username (e-mail username) and password. The system then checks the user's computer for viruses and, if a Windows system, checks for current system updates. If viruses are found or updates are not current, the user is directed to the proper website to complete these tasks. If the user fails to correct the problems, he/she will be disabled from Internet access after 20 minutes and will reach the same login/authentication page every time they turn the computer on. Once these checks have been passed, the user's computer (or other device) is authorized for connection to the network and a DHCP-generated IP address is generated. (At this point, do not logout during the authentication process.) The computer then has access to the Internet and all campus network locations.Once you have been cleaned and updated (if needed), and authenticated, don't log out. Network authentication is required every 28 days. When it, you will only be able to reach the authentication web page, where you will need to enter your ObieID credentials before acquiring any network access. |
