A minimum configuration
and a web browser are required in order to use the Resnet network. If your
computer does not meet the minimum requirements, you will be unable to use
your Resnet connection. This is not to exclude people with older computers;
older computers simply don't work well on modern networks. (Only machines
that support DHCP will be supported.) There is nothing stopping you from
bringing the machine to campus and using it without the benefits of Resnet.
If you do not have a computer or do not have access to Resnet, all of the
resources available on Resnet can be found by using a computer in one of
the many
available computer labs on campus.
What kind of computer do you need to connect to the Oberlin Resnet network? If
you have a new Apple Macintosh or Windows PC, then chances are that you will
need little or nothing to connect to the network. If you have an older computer,
on the other hand, you may have to upgrade hardware or software to take advantage
of Resnet. If your computer does not support Resnet, the CIT can provide a live
connection and will try to recommend a cable or adaptor, but can provide no further
assistance; it is up to you to configure your hardware and software appropriately.
