Setting Up Windows 2000 for DHCP and Novell Netware*

1. Go to the Start Menu, Settings then to Control Panel.


2. Double click on the Network and Dial-up Connections Control panel.


3. Double click on Local Area Connection… Click on Properties. (If you don’t see a Local Area Connection, you will need to create a new one using the Make New Connection program. This process is fairly ugly and not intuitive. Please contact your RCC via cit@oberlin.edu for help).


4. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) component (you may need to scroll down to find it) Click Properties.


5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.


6. Click Advanced… Select the DNS tab. Uncheck the Register this connection’s addresses in DNS.


7. Click OK two times.

8. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, scroll through the components looking for Client Service for NetWare. If you do not find it:

a. Click Install… Select Client and click Add…
b. Select Client Service for NetWare and click OK.
c. In the Select NetWare Login screen, select Default Tree and Context
d. Fill in the following-- Tree: Oberlin Context: Students.Oberlin
e. Check Run Login Script.


10. If it is not already, check the Show icon in taskbar when connected checkbox.


11. Click Close. When prompted if you wish to restart your computer, say No.


12. Click Close in the Local Area Connection Status window.


13. Go back to the Control Panel.


14. Double click on the Users and Passwords control panel. If you have not already created a user with the same username as your Netware username, we will do so now.

a. Click Add…
b. Type your NetWare username where it requests your username.
c. Fill in your name where it asks for a full name.
d. Description you can leave blank.
e. Click Next.
f. Now type in your NetWare password twice. Once in the Password field and again in the Confirm password field.
g. Click Next.
h. Choose Other for the level of access, and then be sure to select Administrators from the menu.
i. Click Finish. Click OK.


15. Now Restart: Start Menu, Shutdown… Select Restart and click OK.


16. When the machine reboots, enter your Netware username and password.


17. A screen should pop up to ask you to Select NetWare Login. Fill in as follows:

a. Select Default Tree and Context
b. Fill in the following-- Tree: Oberlin Context: Students.Oberlin
c. Check Run Login Script. Click OK.


18. You should now see your Stulocker and a several other network drives when you click My Computer.


19. Open your Web Browser, authenticate with your Obiemail username and password.
