Important Information for Visitors and Summer Residents

Most ethernet ports around campus and all of the ethernet ports in the Residence Halls are active. All you have to do, as a visitor, is configure your computer's networking for Ethernet port to DHCP. If you connect via Wireless (or WiFi, the 802.11b standard), you will configure your computer's wireless networking to DHCP and choose the "ANY" wireless network.

All network interfaces must be registered. Current Oberlin students, re-register your connections just like the beginning of the academic year; visitors contact Conference Services or please send an email message to consult@oberlin.edu if you have any questions.

Abuse of the these internet connections will result in immediate disconnection.

We are looking for RCC's for 2004-2005. We normally hire RCC's in February/March, click here for more information.

A new virus has been spreading around since January 27, 2004. The CIT homepages have the latest information: http://www.oberlin.edu/cit/

You can register your computer from any working network port or wireless access area on campus. You should prepare your computer before registering for Resnet. See this link on the CIT download pages: http://www.oberlin.edu/cit/download/resnetprep.htm for step by step instructions.

Our 2003-2004 Resnet information brochure is online here. This is a good starting place if you have no idea about connecting a computer to a network.

Important Information for All Users on Campus

If you use a Macintosh computer in more than one location on campus, you will need to reboot the machine as you move between North Campus and South Campus, and all other campus buildings. This affects Macintosh users running Mac OS 10.x (with AppleTalk turned on), Mac OS 9.x, and 8.x and access to Stulocker.

Microsoft Windows Network Browsing limited to improve network performance:

If you use a computer in North Campus or South Campus, you will only be able to see other Windows computers in your immediate area. This usually meams others on your residence hall floor or your half of a residence hall. This affects Windows users browsing the network for other Windows users and Macintosh users running Macintosh OS 10.2 browsing the network for other Windows users.

If you are viewing this page from your computer, please click here to register your computer into Resnet. You need to register your Ethernet (or wired connection) and your WiFi connection (or wireless connection) and you only need to do this once per Academic Year (August 15th - June 1st).
