Spam Filter Updated

Click to return to CIT home page

We upgraded the server that acts as our email spam filter on Tuesday March 7, 2006.

This upgrade was done to help CIT keep up with ever-increasing amountof spam email.

What the update meant for users:

1. Items added to the one's Whitelist (as of Monday, March 6, 2006) were be migrated to the new server.

2. Users received more that one Quarantine Report for a few days. The reports looked the same as they have in the past. However, if one now clicks on the first hyperlink to release, delete or whitelist messages, the web page that opens will have a blue line on the top and left side of the browser window. This distinguishes that the report is from the new spam filter server. The old spam filter server remained active until it did not receive any additional mail. Users had to release messages from ALL quarantine reports in which they appear, if they wanted to receive them.

The filtering of spam email generates many questions to CIT. Read more information about how/why we filter spam mail (no, you really don't want to receive all mail, including spam).
