PRESTO Issues When Submitting Grades

20 Dec 2007

(7 May 2008)

Some faculty members using Macintosh computers have encountered problems using PRESTO with certain operating system/web browser combinations. They are receiving an error message when submitting grades that says: "Page Not Found". The following is what we know after testing at the Center for Information Technology:

  • Mac OS 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 WILL work with FireFox 2.x.
  • Mac OS 10.3 will also work with Internet Explorer 5.2.3 (a very old version and not available) and Safari 1.3.2 (not available for download). Both of these may be on some older machines.
  • Mac OS 10.4 and Mac OS 10.5 will NOT work with Safari 3.x.

We highly recommend using FireFox 2.x with Macs.

If you already have FireFox 1.x, you will need to go to your Applications folder and delete FireFox 1.x before getting the new version in order to avoid confusion among thetwo applications. Then, empty your trash.

You can get the latest version of FireFox 2.x (2.0.0.14) from the Mozilla website.

Once the new FireFox icon is on your desktop, double-click to open, then click on the button in the upper right hand corner (toolbar button). That opens up a listing of folders on the left hand side of the window and the FireFox icon (the fox encircling the earth). Drag the FireFox icon into the applications folder on the left (not the picture of the applications folder on the right). Close the FireFox window that is open and drag the FireFox icon on the desktop to the trash.

To get FireFox in the Dock, go to the applications folder and open FireFox. Then click and hold on the FireFox icon in the Dock and choose "Keep in Dock" from the pop-up menu.
