Network Authentication Process

Click to return to CIT home page

CIT has network hardware and software in place to enhance network performance and safeguard it from viruses, worms, and operating system security holes.

The system automatically checks a computer for viruses and the latest Windows updates (if it's a Windows computer). Once the computer passes this process, i.e., is considered "clean", authentication (using e-mail account username and password) occurs (see new login page below) and the user is able to fully connect to the campus network. if the computer does not pass, the user will only be able to get to websites specifically for virus-checking and obtaining the latest Windows update. The user will have 20 minutes to accomplish this before being bumped off the network connection.

Login page:

CIT also provides a downloadable file (on the downloads page) that users can install and run on their computers. With this application, the user's computer will automatically check for the latest virus software and the latest Windows updates and automatically install them to keep the computer clean at all times. CIT highly recommends use of this file! Be assured, use of this process is expressly for the purpose of keeping computers clean; no other automated processing will occur as the result of using this file. [file will soon be available - check CIT download pages soon]

Any problems with this process should be reported to cit@oberlin.edu.
