New
to Oberlin?
If you are a new
student, or a new faculty or staff member, there are a few things you
should know to get you going with Information Technology at Oberlin.
Check out the info below:
New Student:
- Make sure you
have received your account information. Your account information should
be in an envelope in your OCMR box in the Mail Room in the basement
of Wilder Hall. If not, please visit the Help Desk with a photo ID
card (Oberlin ID, driver's license, passport, etc.).
- If you live
in a residence hall, make sure you know the name of your Residential
Computer Coordinator (RCC). Your RCC is your first level of service
for computer problems or questions. Check the list
of RCCs online. You may also send an email to rcc@oberlin.edu
for assistance if you cannot locate your designated RCC.
- You will register
for classes and add/drop classes using a program known as PRESTO.
For PRESTO assistance or account information, contact the Registrar's
office.
- Make sure your
computer has been recently virus-checked
and updated/patched prior to attempting to connect to the network.
You will connect to the network using Oberlin's network
authentication process.
- Make sure you
are aware of Oberlin's policies
on the use of IT resources. (Ignorance of policy will not be considered
an excuse if problems arise.)
New Staff:
- Make sure you
have visited the Employee Relations Office prior to requesting your
computer accounts. We need your T# in order to create your accounts.
Account request forms can be obtained online
and brought to the Help Desk (Mudd 005), or faxed (x58573), or sent
via campus mail to CIT Operations, Mudd Learning Center.
- You should have
a computer on your desk, or have had one ordered for you and on its
way. Please check with your supervisor if you don't already have a
computer in place when you arrive.
- If you need
assistance getting started with e-mail or the use of your computer,
check out our online
training tutorials and/or contact the Help Desk to schedule some
one-on-one assistance.

- If you would
like assistance developing Information technology resources for use
in classes or research, contact the Oberlin
Center for Technologically Enhanced teaching (OCTET).
- Note that CIT
installs all additional or upgraded software in computer labs ONLY
during the summer months due to the extensive work required
in getting all the various software applications to work together
in a lab environment. CIT sends an email message annually, during
the spring, requesting faculty complete an online web form for desired
additional or updated software to be installed in the upcoming summer
months.
