New
to Oberlin?
If you are a new
student, or a new faculty or staff member, there are a few things you
should know to get you going with Information Technology at Oberlin.
Check out the info below:
New Student:
- Make sure you
have received your account information. Your account information should
have been sent to your home address (for first-years), or be in an envelope in your OCMR box in the Mail Room in the basement
of Wilder Hall. If not, please visit the Help Desk with a photo ID
card (Oberlin ID, driver's license, passport, etc.).
- You will register
for classes and add/drop classes using a program known as PRESTO.
For PRESTO assistance or account information, contact the Registrar's
office.
- Make sure your
computer has been recently virus-checked
and updated/patched prior to attempting to connect to the network.
You will connect to the network using Oberlin's network
authentication process.
- Make sure you
are aware of Oberlin's policies
on the use of IT resources. (Ignorance of policy will not be considered
an excuse if problems arise.)
- DO NOT violate copyright laws!
New Staff and New Faculty:
- Make sure you
have visited the Human Resources Office/Employee Relations prior to requesting your
computer accounts. We need your T# in order to create your accounts.
Account request forms can be obtained online
and brought to the Help Desk (Mudd 005), or faxed (x58573), or sent
via campus mail to CIT Operations, Mudd Learning Center.
- You should have
a computer on your desk, or have had one ordered for you and on its
way. Please check with your supervisor if you don't already have a
computer in place when you arrive.
- If you need
assistance getting started with e-mail or the use of your computer,
check out our web site and Wiki, and/or contact the Help Desk (Mudd 005, x58197, cit@oberlin.edu) to schedule some
one-on-one assistance.
Additional Information for New Faculty:
- If you would
like assistance developing InformationTtechnology resources for use
in classes or research, contact the Oberlin
Center for Technologically Enhanced teaching (OCTET).
- Note that CIT
installs all additional or upgraded software in computer labs ONLY
during the summer months due to the extensive work required
in getting all the various software applications to work together
in a lab environment. CIT sends an e-mail message annually, during
the spring, requesting that faculty complete an online web form for desired
additional or updated software to be installed in the upcoming summer
months.
