Hardware Repairs

CIT is authorized to repair Apple and HP computers, as well as HP printers.

A list of supported hardware can be found under CIT Policies -> Support Policy

FOR FACULTY & STAFF:

College-owned computers:

  • Faculty and staff suspecting hardware problems should contact the CIT Help Desk (x58197, Mudd 005) to establish a work order. Prior to conducting repairs, CIT will make every reasonable effort to backup user data. Note: Due to the nature of some hardware problems, this is not always possible. Users are urged to continuously make backups of their vital data, since computer hard drives and other equipment often become inoperable with little or no advanced warning.

Personally-owned computers:

  • CIT will work to repair personally-owned Apple and HP computers still under warranty. CiT will provide guidance on getting repairs for Gateway computers still under warranty.
  • CIT will work to repair other Apple and HP computers, for a fee.
  • No software, including operating systems, can be reinstalled with the user's original CDs/disks.
  • Due to limited resources, other types computers are not supported.

FOR STUDENTS:

Students with suspected computer hardware problems should first visit the Technology Services Center (TSC), located in room 112B of the Academic Commons on the main floor of Mudd Center. TSC staff will evaluate the computer and make a determination for a course of action, which may including checking the computer into the Help Desk for further work. The user is responsible for backing up his/her data.
