Guest Services
The following computing
services are available to guests on campus:
- Use
of computer labs:
Guests may visit the CIT Help Desk in Mudd 005, on the A-level of
the Mudd Center, during open hours, Monday-Friday, 9 A.M.-12 P.M.
and 1-4:30 P.M.,or the Library Circulation Desk on the main level of Mudd Center to request a "sponsored" account. This account will give
you access to the computers in the labs. Note:
use of lab computers is to be on a not-to-interfere basis with respect
to Oberlin College students using the lab.
- Printing:
Guests may purchase Guest Cards from dispensers in the Libraries
for a fee. These card allow you to print in the labs by swiping
the card at the appropriate Print Release Station.
We suggest
guests use the computers in the Academic Commons on the main level of Mudd Center. If assistance is
required, we have consultants working in
that facility during the afternoon and/or evening hours Mon-Fri, or the guest can visit the Help Desk in Mudd 005, on Level A.
- Guest
access to the campus network - both wired and wireless: We
do allow guests to plug in their personal laptops to the campus network
for access to the Internet. Note that all computers gaining access
to Oberlin's campus network must first be authenticated.
- In order to be authenticated, a guest must have a sponsored account.
- Sponsored accounts can be created by the Oberlin College person the guest is visiting (that person must be an existing ObieID account holder). In addition, various offices on campus have the ability to create sponsored accounts, such as the CIT Help Desk in Mudd 005 and the Library Circulation Desk on the main level of Mudd Center.
- The authentication
process will check for viruses and vulnerabilities. On Windows computers,
it will also specifically check to ensure the latest Windows operating
system updates are installed.
- Once the process is completed and the
computer is verified to be "clean", the guest will be provided
with access. Click here for Visitor Information,
providing details on gaining network access.
