gateway. The connecting computer link that translates between two different kinds of computer networks.
GIF. Acronym for Graphics Interchange Format. A special file format developed by CompuServe to store graphics that all computers can use.
gigabyte. About one billion bytes, often abbreviated as GB.
GSM. Short for Global System for Mobile Communications, one of the leading digital cellular systems. GSM uses narrowbank TDMA which allows eight simultaneous calls on the same radio frequency. GSM was first introduced in 1991. As of the end of 1997, GSM service was available in more than 100 countries and has become the de facto standard in Europe and Asia.
GUI. Graphical User Interface. A computer system design
in which the user interacts with the system using graphical symbols, tools,
and events, rather than text-based display and commands.
