All personnel desiring to connect to the campus network must first be authenticated on the network. This process is a vital step for the security and safety of computer systems attached to the Oberlin College computer network and is required every 28 days. The authentication process uses a Network Admission Control (NAC) product that checks each users' computer system for necessary updates (particularly, Windows computers) and virus protection. Users whose computers are found to be lacking these necessary security and safety aspects, or found to have safety or security problems (viruses, spyware, misconfigurations, etc.) will be directed to a web page describing the steps to be followed. Every 28 days, before you can access any network resource - the Internet, e-mail, etc. - you will need to open a web browser where you will be directed to a page requiring you to login with your ObieID credentials (account username and password). This authentication process is required for both wired and wirless systems and, as noted, is conducted every 28 days, or as conditions warrant, such as an outbreak of a new computer virus. If you find you cannot reach any network resources, first try opening a web browser. If authentication is required, you will see the web page requiring you to login with your ObieID credentials.
