The Technology Services Center (TSC) is located in room 112B of the Academic Commons, on the main level of Mudd Center. The TSC is the first-level computer help desk for students and other Academic Commons' users.

This is the place where students/users can get help with the computers and printers in the Academic Commons, or where students may bring their personal computers in to get technical assistance, such as help connecting to the college network. The TSC staff will also funnel other technology support requests to the appropriate CIT office: account requests, password changes, etc., and will check in computers that need further work.

The following information applies:

  • In general, CIT does not have the resources (time, staff, or funding) to work in-depth on personal computers. Students who have purchased their computers from the Oberlin College Technology Store (Mac, HP, or Gateway), and for whom those computers are still under warranty, will receive full assistance. Students with out-of-warranty or other types of computers will be assisted on an as-resources-are-available basis.
  • In all cases where further work needs to be done on the computer, the user is responsible for ensuring his/her data has been backed up, prior to bringing the computer to the TSC/CIT. TSC staff will provide assistance to the user in acquiring a backup, although this cannot be guaranteed. If the user does not have a backup of his/her data, the user must acknowledge, in writing, that it is okay for the work to be done and that the data could be lost in the process.
  • When the operating system (OS) must be reinstalled, the user must provide his/her own OS disks. If these are not available, the work cannot be done by TSC/CIT staff, since this is a violation of software licensing laws.

TSC Hours of Operation: Monday-Thursday: 2 P.M. to Midnight, Friday 2-5 P.M., Sunday: 4 P.M. to Midnight, Closed Saturday. For assistance during closed times, users should send an email to cit@oberlin.edu.
