CIT works to ensure that all faculty and staff members receive a computer that is appropriate for their work, whether it is Macintosh or Windows, desktop or laptop. CIT currently provides and supports Macintosh and HP computers. Standard models are determined and updated as needed. Incoming personnel should to check with their departments to see what is in general use within that department before requesting a particular model. Faculty and staff normally receive new or updated computers on a routine basis. See Computer Replacement Policy for more information. Faculty and staff whose computers are considered to be outdated should request upgrades via the Computer Replacement process. (See link above.) All systems provided to faculty and staff remain the property of the College, and must be returned to the College upon termination of service. Faculty and staff are expected to take normal precautions in using, caring for and securing their assigned computers and accessories, and may be held liable for any loss due to neglect or abuse. It is imperative, also, to safeguard the data on one's assigned computer, or on any personal computer where college-related material is stored. This is especially true for confidential and private data. Since laptops are more susceptible to damage and theft, particular care should be taken in transporting and using them. More information about protecting one's assigned computer can be found online.
