both toilets have a little trouble, especially the downstairs one. they work ok though.
Beware that a lot of the windows in the common space don't open. We were sad when we found that out.
Most of the bedrooms are missing smoke detectors.
We had some fleas way back in August but got rid of it by vacuming every day for two weeks with moth balls in the vacum cleaner. The fleas were probably because of a cat that lived there illigally for a week. It ended up being fine, though. Temperature Is the residence well insulated? No Are there window screens? Yes Are there storm windows? No Is the residence warm enough? Yes Is it hard to regulate the heat? (For example, does the thermostat work? Do you have to open windows in the winter?): No Comments on any of the above (temperature): We kept our heat *really* low, between 55-65 F in the winter so it was pretty cold, i don't know how much higher the bill would be if you kept it warmer. Relationship With Landlord Does s/he enter the premises without your consent or without giving legal notice? No Have you observed on the part of the landlord/landlady discrimination on the basis of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.? No Is the landlord/landlady willing to make repairs? If yes, comment on how promptly (below): No Have you had any disagreements with your landlord/landlady concerning who has the responsibility for making the repairs? No Do you expect to have any problems getting your security deposit returned? If yes, why? (Explain below.): No Have you had any major disagreements with your landlord/landlady? (Explain below.): No If yes, have you taken any legal action concerning the disagreement? (Explain below.): Explanations and comments: We notified him about some minor repairs (small leak in the wall, piece of molding fell off the wall, etc.) in january and he asked us if it was okay to wait until summer because it would be easier for him to fix it then. If we had been more persistant he might have done it but he didn't seem to really want to. It seemed like he would have fixed it if it had been really bad though, like plumbing or something. I personally like Mr. Wu a lot, though we should note that sometimes we have language/accent barrier issues when talking on the phone. If I don't understand I just ask him to repeat it and it's fine, but that's been something we've had to work through. Neighborhood & Location Are your neighbors towns-people, students, or a mix? Mix For whom is the noise level appropriate? School children Problems with location? None of the above Comments on the neighborhood: We have bikes, you can walk and it's just a couple blocks but would probably get annoying. The back of our house is an apartment where (right now) a nice older woman and her middle school-aged grandson live. They have a separate door and everything, but we share the back yard and a wall in the house. We don't have loud, late parties and this house probably isn't the place for them.
