A nice house with wood floors, slightly run downand just in need of general repair -- comparable or better than most student houses I've seen in Oberlin. Temperature Is the residence well insulated? No Are there window screens? Yes Are there storm windows? No, so we put plastic on the windows Is the residence warm enough? No Is it hard to regulate the heat? (For example, does the thermostat work? Do you have to open windows in the winter?): No Comments on any of the above (temperature): The house was very expensive to heat, so we kept it as cold we could stand it. Relationship With Landlord Does s/he enter the premises without your consent or without giving legal notice? Yes Have you observed on the part of the landlord/landlady discrimination on the basis of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.? No Is the landlord/landlady willing to make repairs? If yes, comment on how promptly (below): Yes Have you had any disagreements with your landlord/landlady concerning who has the responsibility for making the repairs? No Do you expect to have any problems getting your security deposit returned? If yes, why? (Explain below.): Yes Have you had any major disagreements with your landlord/landlady? (Explain below.): Yes If yes, have you taken any legal action concerning the disagreement? (Explain below.): No Explanations and comments: Our landlady entered the premise without giving notice or getting consent on a couple of ocassions. During the summer, my utilities were twice turned off because her managers forgot to deliver the bills and late notices. I was blamed for the bills not being paid and held responsible for bills the should have come out of my housemate's utilities deposits. I moved out when the utilities were turned off the second time and stayed with a friend. I refused to pay the bills on what I saw as extremely unfair terms. Three months after the summer ended and after several emails and letters, she returned part of the deposits, but we are still arguing over the rest of the deposits. The people the year before us never had their deposits returned for the most part. Neighborhood & Location Are your neighbors towns-people, students, or a mix? Townspeople For whom is the noise level appropriate? School children Problems with location? None of the above Comments on the neighborhood: Nice. Close enough to campus -- about a block from Dascomb.
