DeCafe Cuts Hours, Citing Budget Cuts

Next semester, students will find it a little more difficult to slurp smoothies or get caffeinated in the wee hours of the morning. DeCafe will close at 8 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights under a new plan proposed by CDS director Michele Gross. Officials say the move will save jobs amid campus-wide budget cuts.

Commencement Route Dodges Arch, Krislov Blames Sun

As Oberlin students and their parents scramble to file tax returns and FAFSA forms, College officials remain uncertain about how the economy will affect third-party loans during the recession. Although outside loan applications have traditionally been small in number at Oberlin, the bad economy may find students searching for cash right as a credit crunch is squeezing lending institutions' liquidity.

Geographies of Displacement Symposium Brings Tibetan Poet to Campus

"It is not the accuracy of the story which concerns us; it's who gets to tell it," read Tibetan poet Tsering Wangmo Dhompa from her book, Rules of the House. This was a recurrent theme throughout the entire Geographies of Displacement Symposium sponsored by Oberlin Shansi, the Creative Writing Department and other groups. The reading, comprised of selections from Dhompa's three books -- two poetry and one non-fiction -- explored the power of subjective narratives as tools of expression and subversion, as well as the importance of owning these narratives.
