Levity Accompanies Serious Discussion on Poverty

Stratification of wealth has become a national epidemic. Harper's magazine stated that 75 percent of all income gains during the Bush administration have gone to the top one percent of earners. A 2007 Census Bureau study reported that 37.3 million Americans were living in poverty. This past weekend's Poverty Symposium showed that Lorain County's economic situation is only a small model of that national crisis. According to Oberlin Community Services, nearly 20 percent of residents live in poverty.

Congress Calls on Krislov, Students' Votes at Stake

Last Thursday, President Marvin Krislov spoke before the United States House of Representatives Committee on House Administration at a hearing titled "Ensuring the Rights of College Students to Vote."

Hispanic Studies Class Invities Tami Tango Trio to Oberlin

In her course, Tango: A Cultural History, Chair of the Department of Hispanic Studies and Associate Professor Ana Cara explores a teaching pedagogy that is more often found in dance and music classes. Twice a week, the students meet for a traditional academic course. The third hour is spent watching movies about tango, taking a tango dance class or listening to tango music.

Women's Tennis Shines at Home

The women's tennis team kicked off its season by hosting the OC Invitational, a tournament on Oberlin's home courts.
