Calala's Water Haven

Calala's Water Haven is run by Bob Calala and his two brothers Lewis Jr. and David, who raise shrimp, and have been raising various seafood for over 40 years. The Water Haven consists of 90 acres of land with 60 ponds dotting the landscape. It is the only shrimp nursery in Ohio and located just 24 miles away.

Cooper Farms

Cooper Farms has been raising turkeys since 1938 and is now in its second generation as a family owned farm. All four divisions of Cooper Farms, the hatchery, feed and animal production, processing, and cooked meats, are located in a 70-mile area and ship from 160 miles of Oberlin.

Cooper Farms raise hormone and steroid free animals fed grain produced by local family farms. They use occasional hormones in humane practice and raise their baby turkeys in a disease free facility. They are dedicated to humane treatment of their animals and a high level of environmental stewardship, including maintaining the natural habitat of the area and a Comprehensive Waste Management Plan for their animal waste. They have a Certified Animal Raising and Environmental System.

Crooked River Coffee Company

Crooked River is the midwest's premier roaster and distributor of coffee products. All coffees are roasted locally 50 miles from Oberlin in Mayfield Village. They emphasize select grade, environmentally sustainable and socially just coffees.

Crooked River sells only USDA certified organic, shade-grown, bird-friendly and fair trade coffee. Coffees sold at Oberlin come from Guatemala, Honduras, and Ethiopia.

Creekside Mushrooms, Ltd.

Creekside is the world's largest mushroom growing facility and the only underground one in the United States. Everything used on the farm is produced on sight and they send fresh shipments out daily. All Creekside employees are local residents. Mushrooms are grown all naturally.

George Jones Memorial Farm

Our most local grower, the George Jones Memorial Farm is located just 2 miles down Lorain St and owned by Oberlin College. The farm grows a variety of local vegetables including lettuce, dark leafy greens, and tomatoes. It is on 70 acres of land that serve as both a nature preserve and an organic farm. The Jones Farm also includes a handicap-accessible learning garden and is often used by classes and the community at Oberlin.

The George Jones Memorial Farm serves as a model for organic food production, habitat restoration, and soil restoration.

Gerber's Poultry, Inc.

Gerber's Poultry was started as a family farm in 1952 with the mission of providing local, fresh clean chicken with a natural great taste to the community. Today Gerber's Poultry is in its third generation and now has its own modern processing and packaging plant. Local Amish and Mennonite farmers now grow and care for Gerber chickens. Gerber's Poultry, Inc. consists of three businesses that work in partnership to produce their chicken. They are Orrville Chick Hatchery, Hingle Company and Gerber's Poultry. Gerber's Poultry is located 60 miles from Oberlin in Kidron, OH.

Hartzler's Dairy

Hartzler's Dairy has been a family business since 1952. The Hartzler Farm has used no chemical pesticides or herbicides for over 32 years. They opened the first new dairy in 30 years in 1990 and have had tremendous success with their natural milk and butter. Hartzler's is located in Wooster, OH, 43 miles from Oberlin.

Hartzler's Dairy products in addition to being pesticide and herbicide free, growth hormone-free, and non-homogenized, allowing for easier digestion of lactose. Hartzler cows eat only natural grains and graze on grass pasture during the summer.

Hirzel's Canning Company

Dei Fratelli is the brand name for the tomato products produced by Hirzel's Canning Company. Hirzel's is in its fourth generation and seventh decade of tomato farming and canning. Over 30 independent Ohio growers within a 20-mile radius supply fresh tomatoes to the three Dei Fratelli processing plants. Tomatoes are grown from self-cultivated seedlings. Dei Fratelli is located in Toledo, Ohio, 80 miles from Oberlin and produces a variety of canned tomato products including sauces.

Hirzel's produce is grown using organic techniques, and the founding farm practices non-chemical farming techniques including a five-year crop rotation, shallow tillage, and compost. Dei Fratelli does not use any GMOs.

Jorgensen's Apiary

Judy's Oasis
