of Sport and Recreation 3 hours
First Semester.
This course will examine psychological, social and behavioral
factors in participation in sport, recreation and exercise activities.
Theoretical perspectives regarding the social psychology of
sport will be explored. In addition, various approaches to applied
sport psychology will be examined. Evaluations will be based
on group projects, exams and/or final paper. Enrollment Limit:

505. Exercise
Science 3 hours
Second Semester.
This course is designed to examine the areas of kinesiology
and exercise physiology, how movements are created, and physiological
responses and adaptations to physical activity. Although there
are no prerequisites for this course, students would find it
helpful to have some background in introductory biology or anatomy.
Some physical activity will be required. Evaluations will be
based on group projects, exams and/or final paper. Enrollment
Limit: 20.
507. Seminar
in Homophobia in Sport 3 hours
Second Semester.
This course examines homophobia in sport--examining cause and
solutions to address this issue. Enrollment Limit: 15.
508. Personal
Wellness 3 hours

Second Semester.
An introduction to lifestyle behaviors over which people can
exert some control. Students will develop individual health
goals and personal wellness portfolios. Benefits of exercise
and fitness, healthy diet, stress reduction, and management
of lifestyle behaviors will be emphasized. Students will be
introduced to campus and community health resources, health
risk assessments and self-appraisals, guest speakers, and self-care
techniques. Enrollment Limit: 20. First-year students
only.
509. Principles
of Athletic Training 3 hours

First Semester.
A lecture course which examines the prevention, recognition,
and treatment of athletic injuries. Instruction will include
injury evaluation techniques commonly used in the various athletic
training settings. Pertinent aspects of human anatomy and physiology
will be reviewed. Recommended for those interested in pre-med
or in serving as student-trainers. Enrollment Limit:

513. Problems for Investigation 2-4
hours

First and Second
Semester. Designed for upperclass students with projects or
interest areas not covered by other offerings in the department,
or for those who wish to pursue a topic in more depth than is
possible in the regular curriculum. A formal paper will be part
of the requirement. Consent of chair required.
524. Advanced
Athletic Training 3 hours

Second Semester.
The study of advanced topics in athletic training including
rehabilitation and therapeutic techniques. This course is designed
for the student who expresses interest in the field of sports
medicine for the care and prevention of athletic injuries. Lecture
and practical hands-on experience are used to enhance the knowledge
of athletic training. Consent of instructor required.
