Winter Term Internships: Select an Intern

Thank you for offering a Winter Term internship for Oberlin students. We are pleased to be able to work with you on this opportunity. Please review the information below about selecting candidates, as we need your help to ensure that this process runs smoothly and efficiently. If you have questions, or encounter any difficulty making selections through ObieOpps, please contact Career Center as soon as possible, and we will be happy to help with notifying your candidates of their status.

Select Your Candidates

  1. On Tuesday, November 5, you will receive an email with a link to your applications from oberlin- csm@symplicity.com (reply-to internships@oberlin.edu). Click on the attachment link at the end of that message to download and review your application materials. You may also view and download your applications by logging into your ObieOpps account at https://oberlin-csm.symplicity.com/employers

  2. As soon as possible, contact any applicants you wish to interview to schedule a convenient time for a telephone interview. Please be sure that all interviews are completed before November 15.

  3. Decide on your first choice candidate, and a ranked list of other applicants you would be willing to accept, in order of preference.

Enter Your Selections in ObieOpps

Please be sure to update ObieOpps with your selections before the November 15 deadline.

  1. Log in to ObieOpps at https://oberlin-csm.symplicity.com/employers. Your username is your email address and if you don’t have a password, select ‘forgot password’. If you need help with your username or password, please contact the Career Center.

  2. Once you have logged in, click on the Jobs tab at the top of your home page to display a list of your Winter Term internships (and any other active job postings that you may have in ObieOpps).

  3. Click on the first position for which you would like to make selections, then select the Student Resumes tab at the top of the page. A list of all the students who have applied for the position will be displayed.

  4. In the Student Status column, choose the appropriate status for each student. You can choose from “Offered,” “1st/2nd/3rd/ Alternate,” or “Not Selected.” Note that students will be able to see their status when they log in to ObieOpps.

  5. To actually offer the position to a student, be sure to click the Offer Position button in the Offer Status column. (Note that if you have multiple openings for the same internship, you can offer the position to more than one student.) Clicking the Offer Position button will notify the Career Center of your selection.

  6. Once the Career Center reviews and approves the offering, you will see "Approved" in the Approval by School column, and the selected student(s) will be notified of the offer. You will also receive a copy of the offer e-mail that is sent to the student.

  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for any additional internships you are offering. When you have finished, log out of ObieOpps.

When a Candidate Accepts Your Offer

You will receive an e-mail notifying you when a candidate accepts your offer. If you have alternates for the position, please update ObieOpps as soon as possible so they know the position has been filled. Please remember that other employers and students may be waiting on your decision!

  1. Log in to ObieOpps at https://oberlin-csm.symplicity.com/employers.

  2. Click on the Jobs tab and select the internship you want to update.

  3. Click the Student Resumes tab to view the list of applicants. You will see “Offer Accepted” next to the accepting candidate's name in the Offer Status column.

  4. For each alternate candidate, select "Not Selected" from the drop-down Student Status menu. This will alert them that the position has been filled, and they can then move on to other opportunities.

  5. When you have finished, log out of ObieOpps.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to contact your selected student(s) directly (either by phone or e-mail) to arrange the final details of the internship: start date, schedule, directions and parking, appropriate attire, etc.

If a Candidate Declines Your Offer

You will receive an e-mail notifying you if a candidate declines your offer. At that point you can extend the offer to an alternate candidate through ObieOpps.

  1. Log in to ObieOpps at https://oberlin-csm.symplicity.com/employers.

  2. Click on the Jobs tab and select the internship you want to update

  3. Click the Student Resumes tab to view the list of applicants. You will see “Offer Declined” next to the declining candidate's name in the Offer Status column.

  4. For the next alternate candidate, click the Offer Position button in the Offer Status column (you can leave the student's alternate status as-is). Clicking the Offer Position button will notify the Career Center of your selection.

  5. Once the Career Center reviews and approves the offering, you will see "Approved" in the Approval by School column, and the selected student(s) will be notified of the offer. You will also receive a copy of the offer email that is sent to the student.

  6. When you have finished, log out of ObieOpps.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to contact your selected student(s) directly (either by phone or e-mail) to arrange the final details of the internship: start date, schedule, directions and parking, appropriate attire, etc.
