Summer Bowling
Summer is just around the corner and our summer programs
will be starting soon. Our Tuesday afternoon Seniors
League will begin
its summer session on May 27. This league is open to all bowlers age 55+
and is completely fun oriented. The cost is only $3.50 per bowler per week
and you only pay for the weeks you bowl. Teams are formed based on who
shows up, so it is also a great opportunity to meet people! You don’t
have to wait to join: the league bowls every Tuesday at 1pm.
If you are looking for nighttime league options, our Summer
Triples League will be bowling on Wednesdays at 7pm starting May 28. This USBC Certified
league is a great opportunity to maintain your groove from the end of this
season or work on stuff to prepare for next season. Teams can be any combination
of men, women and youth. If you’ve wanted to give league bowling a
try, this is a good way to get your feet wet. Space is limited to six teams,
so sign up today!
For bowlers looking for a challenge this summer, the Summer Shootout PBA Experience League will begin Thursday, June 5. This singles league will test you on the same patterns faced by the pros on the PBA Tour. This league will have a prize fund that will pay out to every bowler -- youth bowlers will earn scholarships while adult bowlers will receive cash. This league is also drop-in, so bowlers will only have to pay for the weeks they bowl.
We will have regular open bowling all summer if you want to come in and play or just get out of the heat. We are also available for parties!
April Recap
The high scoring continued through April with the Bowler of the Year race winding down. Point leader Dan Getler secured his position with a 777 series in the Oberlin Classic league. This is the highest series ever bowled by an Oberlin College student. Katy Reid also maintained her dominance with a 205 game and 541 series in the Kaydettes league. Congratulations to both for earning Bowler of the Year!
This month also has the distinction of being the first time two 300 games occurred in the same month at College Lanes. The first 300 happened on April 12 and was bowled by Kent State University student Kevin Kommel during this year’s OC Unconventional Tournament. Video of Kommel’s 10th frame can be viewed here. The second 300 was bowled by Mike McComb when he prebowled for the Thursday Keglers league on April 24.
The scores are also getting higher in the Singles Shootout: PBAX league. John Winch added his name to the Sport Series wall with a 607 earned on the challenging Shark pattern. Tim Carey put his name at the top of the score list with a 727 series and 279 game on the Viper pattern.
