Wacky Bowling
Our Spring Tournament Series continues on Friday, March 14th with the Wacky
Bowling Tournament. In this event, teams of three will bowl three games in
three unique ways: sitting, lying down, and backwards between the legs! The
two high-scoring teams will move on to a championship match incorporating
all three wacky bowling styles. The wackiest team with the most pins knocked
down will be the winner!
This tournament is open to everyone, but we only have room for six teams
of three. The cost is $4 per bowler. Practice will begin at 6:45pm with games
starting at 7pm. Sign up today at the counter or send us an e-mail!
Crown Tournament Recap
Our first ever Crown Tournament was held on Friday, February
29th. In this tournament, bowlers tried to get the fewest pins possible,
but failing to hit pins (such as rolling a gutterball) counted as a strike
or spare. If a bowler managed to pick off the 7 pin and the 10 pin, that
is called a crown. Six participants earned Crowns, including Jen Randles
who accomplished the feat three times (two of them back-to-back). Avi Miner,
OC student and lane attendant, was eventually “crowned” the
champion. Thanks to all the bowlers who made this event a success!
February Recap
If you thought January was a big month score-wise, February
was even bigger. On the Men’s side, the bowler of the year race became
incredibly tight as Dan Getler took the lead earning 15 points: 14 through
Oberlin Classic and 1 through Singles
Shootout. Junior bowler Griffin Sabelli
also moved up in the rankings, earning 5 points for his 278 game and 6
points for his 709 series (his first 700 series at College Lanes), both
earned in the Friday Juniors league. Top honors for series went to Russ
Thieret, who had a huge night February 25 in the Classic league. His 751
series is the current high series for College Lanes this season. The last
time the Men’s Monthly High Series board had all 700+ scores was
back in March 2002.
On the Women’s Scoreboard, Katy Reid came close to adding some ink
to the Women’s 600 Club when she bowled a 599 in the Kaydettes league.
Although she missed out on 5 bonus points, she is maintaining her dominance
in the Bowler of the Year points race.
Summer Leagues
Many of our leagues will be running well into April and
May, but it is not too early to start making your summer bowling plans.
We are starting to formulate our Summer League schedule and would love
your input. If you are interested in bowling, we would love to hear your
ideas on formats, days and times. Or if you just want to get on our contact
list for whatever leagues we come up with, we can let you know what our
plans are once we finalize the summer schedule. Ask your friendly lane
attendant for more information!
