Oberlin City Government
Oberlin’s main elected governing institution is its city council. The council consists of seven non-partisan, at large members, who serve two-year terms.
Oberlin does not elect a mayor, but city council elects one of its members to be the Council Chair, who also serves as mayor. The council also elects a Council Vice Chair to perform the Chair’s duties in his or her absence.
City council appoints a City Manager, who serves as the city’s chief executive and administrative officer and is responsible for appointing civil servants. The Municipal Court judge serves a six year term.
