According to district data, in 2006-2007 the Oberlin City Schools served a student population of 1090 that was 50.7% White, 27.2% Black, 15% Multi-Racial, 4.4% Hispanic, 2.1% Asian or Pacific Islander. Also, 36% of those students were economically disadvantaged, and 15.6% had disabilities.

The 2007 graduation rate was 96.3% (as compared to the state requirement of 90% and the state average of 86.1%). The attendance rate was 94.3%, better than the requirement of 93% and the state average of 94.1%. However, Oberlin schools only met 11 out of 28 other measures of success, including acceptable passing rates on only 4 out of 18 proficiency tests given to grades 3-8. For more stats click here

Oberlin's mascot is the Phoenix. In 2006, the school board decided to change the mascot, the Indian,because of concerns that it was offensive to Native Americans.

Adult Educational Statistics:

13.6% of Oberlin residents over 25 have not graduated high school. 24.1% of Oberlin residents have earned a professional or graduate degree, and an additional 17.1% have earned a bachelor’s degree. (http://www.census.gov)
