Student-athletes and other members of the Oberlin Athletics community warm up around a bonfire on Oct. 6 | More Photos... |
October 9, 2006 -- From Monday, October 2 to Sunday, October 8, the Oberlin College Department of Athletics held its annual “Spirit Week.” Students, faculty and staff, administrators, alumni, and other friends and family of Oberlin athletics could be seen throughout the week proudly wearing crimson and gold, while loudly supporting the Yeomen and Yeowomen.
Oberlin not only hosted a number of athletics events for Spirit Week, but also sponsored a blood drive, canned food drive, tailgate, live remote broadcast of the Oberlin football game, and much more.
The week started off with women’s soccer against Hiram on Tuesday and a field hockey game on Wednesday against Washington and Jefferson. On Friday, the swimming and diving teams hosted a pentathlon. Saturday was by far the busiest day for home sporting events, as a trio of North Coast Athletic Conference contests took place at Dill Field and North Fields. The women’s soccer team was the first to hit the field against the Earlham Quakers. After the football team downed Denison, 18-7, the men’s soccer squad retained possession of the Freedom Trophy by blanking Earlham, 4-0. Large and energetic crowds at all of the week’s games witnessed outstanding play by Oberlin’s teams.
