February 27 – The Oberlin College women’s tennis team totaled 42 points, while the men garnered 34 points to be ranked third and sixth respectively in the NCAC preseason polls.
Although the polls have just been released, both the men’s and women’s teams have already taken to the court this spring.
The Yeomen have already racked up wins against Malone College (Feb. 16) and conference foe Wittenberg (Feb 24) as they have a 2-1 recorded heading into Thursday’s match with Mount Union College.
OC is led by senior Chris Pray as he has already posted a 2-1 mark in No. 1 singles action this season. Junior David Midler is also a formidable foe in the No. 2 position as he too is 2-1 on the year. Fellow senior Colin Burling is also one of the best doubles players in the conference as he and Pray have teamed up to post a 2-1 mark in No. 1 doubles action.
The Yeowomen, who will be in action tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the John W. Heisman Field House against Ashland, have started the season 1-1 – beating the 12th-ranked team in the region in Baldwin-Wallace (Feb. 16), but fell to Otterbein (Feb. 23) last weekend.
Oberlin is led by senior Kimiko Glynn, who is currently ranked 14th in the central region. Glynn has a posted a 5-3 mark on the year dating back to two events in the fall.
The Yeowomen will also look to Hayden sisters, Jane and Olivia, as well as junior Kelly Sipp to be major factors in both singles and doubles play. |
