Complete Men's Results vs. Allegheny
April 26 – The Oberlin College women’s tennis team concluded their 2008 season in grand fashion with a 5-2 defeat of Allegheny in the NCAC Tournament to finish in third place.
“It was a good way to end the season,” head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “It was also fitting that Kelly (Sipp) won the fifth point for us with the difficult season she has had. It was also a great way to send off our seniors, Jackie (Golden) and Kimi (Glynn), for all they have done for our program.
The senior duo of Glynn and Golden got the winning started with an 8-3 win over Lauren Kristofco and Sara Longo at No. 1 doubles. Their teammates followed suite as the Yeowomen were victorious in all three doubles duals by identical 8-3 count. Kelly Sipp and Olivia Hayden topped Jackie Conrad and Kristyn Paone at No. 2 and Jane Hayden and Sarah Teitelbaum bested Tamara Prairie and Margaret Hodgkiss-Lilly at No. 3.
In the final singles match of her career, Glynn went out as the victor by defeating Kristofco 6-3, 6-0.
OC lost at positions five and six, but Sipp clinched the match in the No. 4 spot with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tamara Prairie.
The win gives Oberlin one of its best conference finishes in school history and improves on its fourth-place finish from a year ago. The Yeowomen also avenged a 5-4 loss they suffered to Allegheny earlier this year.
Denison University was crowned NCAC Championships for the eighth-straight year as they defeated Kenyon 5-0.
The men’s tournament also got underway this afternoon, but the No. 5 Yeomen were defeated by the No. 4 Gators 5-0.
The doubles tandem of Leo Sprinzen and David Midler gave Ben Hurtuk and Evan Gordon all they could handle at No. 3 before falling 9-8 (12-10).
Oberlin will now play Wittenberg in the loser’s bracket tomorrow at 9 a.m. |
