April 22 – In the final regular-season home match of her career, senior Kimiko Glynn knocked off the 21st- ranked player in the region, Paige MacDonald, to highlight the afternoon for the Yeowomen.
Glynn, a native of West Des Moines, Iowa, outlasted MacDonald 7-6 (7-5) in the first set. Sensing her opponent’s dismay over dropping the first set, the senior captain took advantage by finishing her off with a 6-2 win in the second set to earn her 15th victory of the season.
Unfortunately for the Yeowomen, the Ladies, who are ranked 25th in the country and seventh in the region, were able to take advantage of their superior depth to an 8-1 win.
Oberlin did give Kenyon all it could handle on the doubles court, but couldn’t quite pull out a victory. Glynn and fellow senior Jackie Golden fell to No. 22 Prita Kidder and Meredith Brown by an 8-5 count.
Oliva Hayden and Kelly Sipp were defeated 8-4 by MacDonald and Alexis Marino at the No. 2 position, while Sarah Teitelbaum and Marta Robertson also fought hard but found themselves on the wrong of an 8-4 final against Eva Ceja and Molly Yost.
Sipp also battled neck-and-neck with Ceja on the No. 4 singles court, but eventually succumbed to a 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 defeat.
Golden and Glynn, the two senior members of the Yeowomen, were honored before the match.
Oberlin will now play host to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships from April 25-26. The College will also be hosting the men’s championships on April 26 and 27. |
