April 15 –
Oberlin College senior Kimiko Glynn knocked off 2007 NCAC Player of the Year and NCAA Qualifier Meghan Damico to highlight the Yeowomen’s first outdoor meet on the Don Hunsinger Courts this season.

After being edged 7-6 (7-4) in the opening set, Glynn responded with a 6-3 victory in set number two. With the winner of the match already determined the third set went to a super tiebreak where Glynn proved that she too is one of the best players in the region, showing great tenacity to earn a 10-8 win in the third set and claim the match.

Damico is a two-time All-NCAC first-team selection in singles and is ranked second in the Central Region. The win is Glynn’s first against a ranked opponent this year. Glynn is currently ranked No. 31 in the latest itatennis.com rankings that were released today.

“This was a big win for Kimi,” head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “She has been so close all year long and she surely deserves to be classified with the great players in the region and across the country. I am so proud of the way she played today and year long. She truly deserves this win.”

Glynn partnered with fellow senior Jackie Golden to nearly defeat the No. 3 doubles team in the region, Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane, but eventually succumbed to a 9-7 loss. Glynn and Golden led 7-4 and had multiple chances to close out the match, but Cobb and Drane showed why they are so highly ranked – fighting off the match point multiple times to steal the come-from-behind win.

Denison, which is ranked fifth in the nation and first in the region, won the match 8-1.

The Yeowomen will return to action this weekend, playing two matches on Saturday. First they will take on conference foe Earlham at 9 a.m., before battling Indiana Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m.
