March 25 –
The Oberlin College women’s tennis team had some highpoints, but in the end DePauw proved why it is one of the best teams in the country by defeating the Yeowomen 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the highlights for Oberlin included the senior duo of Kimiko Glynn and Jackie Golden knocking off the seventh-best doubles tandem in the region, Erin Andrade and Kayla Smith, by a count of 8-6. As a team DePauw is ranked No. 5 in the country and is the top-ranked team in the Central Region.

“That was a big win for us” head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “It gave us a lot of confidence as a team and inspired the girls to play hard throughout the match. DePauw is obviously a very good team, but we fought hard and did not roll over against them.”

Janelle Arita, who is ranked seventh in the Central Region, bested Glynn 6-0, 6-3 in singles play.  Kelly Buckley, who sits one spot back of Arita in the rankings, followed with a pair of 6-2 sets over Golden – as Oberlin was unable to claim victory in any singles dual.

Oberlin will complete its Spring Break trip on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a match against the University of Chicago.
