March 24 –
In their first match of Spring Break, the Oberlin College women’s tennis team dropped a hard-fought 6-3 decision against Carleton College in Hilton Head, S.C. on Monday afternoon.

“We had some great individual performances today led by our team captain [Kimiko Glynn],” head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “But in the end we came up just short against a very solid team.”

After dropping the first set 6-1, Glynn appeared to be in major trouble as she trailed 4-1 in the second set to Frances Leung, however, Glynn showed why she is one of the best players in the central region (ranked 25th) as she fought back to win the set 7-6 – taking the tiebreak 7-3. She used that momentum to claim the match with a 6-3 win in the third and final set.

Hayden sisters, Olivia and Jane, paired up on the doubles court to defeat Sarah Wehrly and Emily Ho in the No. 3 meeting.

Olivia also earned a victory in singles action as she outlasted Wehrly 7-5, 3-6, 11-9 in the No. 5 position.

In the end Carleton played more consistent as a team as they won doubles matches 1-and-2, and singles slots 2, 3, 4 and 6.

Oberlin will have another tough test tomorrow against DePauw University. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 8 in the nation and are the top-ranked team in the central region. Action will get underway at 8 a.m.
