April 12 – The Oberlin College women’s tennis team found themselves on the wrong side of a closely-fought 5-4 decision against Allegheny on Saturday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis Center in Erie, Pa.
“This was a great match,” head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “I have to take my hat off to Allegheny as they played very well as a team. With that being said, we played some great tennis ourselves, and we look forward to playing them again at the conference tournament in a few weeks.”
Senior captain Kimiko Glynn cruised past Lauren Kristofco 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 position to notch her 12th victory of the season.
Olivia Hayden followed suite in the No. 3 slot as she outlasted Sara Longo 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to garner the win.
Oberlin (5-11, 3-1 NCAC) dropped matches two and four, but Sarah Teitelbaum came through by beating Allison Elick by back-to-back counts of 6-3.
Oberlin dropped two of three doubles duals, but the No. 1 tandem of Glynn and Jackie Golden topped Kristofco and Longo 8-4.
So with eight points accounted for with score being tied at four, it came down to the No. 6 singles battle where Marta Robertson had a great effort, but fell short to Jackie Conrad 6-1 and 7-5.
The Yeowomen will have a quick turnaround when they play host to Denison on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. |
