Complete Results vs. Albion
April 5 – The Oberlin College women’s tennis team was again slated in the first match of the morning on day two of the GLCA tournament hosted by Oberlin. The Yeowomen, playing indoors this morning due to cold outdoor temperatures, fell by a 6-1 count to Albion College.
Oberlin trailed 2-1 to the Britons, ranked #14 in the Central Region according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, following doubles play. Albion earned victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots 8-2 and 8-0. The Yeowomen pairing of Kimiko Glynn and Olivia Hayden bested the Albion duo of Michelle Mulder and Mara Rendina 8-1 at No. 2 doubles for Oberlin’s lone point of the day.
In singles action the match-up at No. 1 between Glynn and Shelley Zalmar was a real battle. Glynn took the first set 6-4, Zalmer fought back earning a 6-3 win in the second and clinching the match with a 6-2 third set win.
Albion garnered their other three wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles action. In two matches that did not finish Oberlin’s Jackie Golden was trailing in the third set after she split sets one and two with the Briton’s Vic Seiter in No. 2 singles competition. Kelly Sipp, the Yeowomen’s No. 4 competitor was even with Rendina 4-4 in the first set when Albion clinched the match by decision.
In other action at today’s GLCA Tournament Hope College will face non-GLCA member Divison II Ashland University, Kenyon College squares off against Kalamazoo College and Albion returns to the court against Ashland to conclude the day’s matches.
The Yeowomen tennis team will conclude their day by offering a free clinic for kids aged 6-15. They return to the courts next Saturday, April 12 at Allegheny in NCAC action at 1:00 p.m. |
