team began North Coast Athletic Conference competition
this weekend by traveling south to face Ohio Wesleyan
and Wittenberg. The Yeowomen were beaten by the Battling
Bishops last night 2-7, but they bounced back this
afternoon to earn a 8-1 conference win over the Wittenberg
Tigers. Oberlin's record stands at 6-2 overall and
1-1 in league play after the two matches.
During this afternoon's win over Wittenberg,
Oberlin won all three doubles matches and five out of
six singles matches. Earning singles victories for the
Yeowomen were Bianca Barr (Sr.), Elle Anzinger (So.),
Kelly Sipp (So.), and Olivia and Jane Hayden (So.). The
Hayden sisters also teamed up to claim a win in third
doubles, while Barr and Anzinger (first doubles) and
Jackie Golden (Jr.) and Sipp (number two doubles) also
boasted doubles wins.
In yesterday's loss to Ohio Wesleyan, Olivia
Hayden and Barr earned Oberlin's only points with singles
victories. Hayden, now 8-0 on the year and 4-0 at fifth
singles, defeated Annie Worth, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. Barr,
who is 5-3 overall and 3-3 at first singles, downed Ohio
Wesleyan's Katie Figgie, 7-5, 6-3.
