The Oberlin women's soccer team put up a very strong
effort today on the road at Wittenberg University.
The host Tigers, ranked 17th in the nation, needed
overtime to down the Yeowomen, who held Wittenberg
scoreless for 90 minutes of regulation and all but
eight seconds of the overtime period. Wittenberg improved
to 12-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the NCAC, while Oberlin
slipped to 2-9-1 (0-4-0 NCAC).
The Yeowomen's defensive effort today was nothing
short of excellent, as the Tigers out-shot Oberlin
16-4 and the visitors only yielded one score. Christie
Zelnik was strong in goal, saving seven shots in 99:52
of action. The Tigers had an 8-1 advantage in corner
kicks.
Oberlin will look to end an eight-game losing streak
on October 16 when Kenyon College visits Fred Shults
Field for a 3:30 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference
contest.
