September 1, 2007 -- The Oberlin women's soccer team squared off against Marian today in the championships game of the Tri-State Tournament. The Yeowomen were edged in the non-conference contest, 0-2, despite outstanding second-half defensive play. Oberlin's record stands at 1-1 after the defeat.
Marian scored two goals within a minute of each other in the middle of the first half and was able to hold on for the win. Oberlin's defense played extremely well in the second half and allowed the offense to match Marian on shot attempts at five a piece.
Leading Oberlin this afternoon was sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Grabinski, who tallied nine saves on the day. The Yeowomen were out-shot 6-15 and both teams had three corner attempts.
Next up for Oberlin is a non-conference contest at Washington and Jefferson College on September 5 at 7:00 p.m.
