Women's Soccer Topped by Baldwin-Wallace, 0-1

September 12, 2007 -- The Oberlin women’s soccer team fell to Baldwin Wallace College this afternoon in their first lost as the new Fred Shults Field.  A second half goal was enough for the Yellow Jackets to take the victory and improve to 3-2-0 (0-0), while the Yeowomen drop to 2-2-1 (0-0).

Sixty minutes into the match Baldwin Wallace got a break away following a long ball that sneaked through the Yeowomen’s back line and first-year Lindsay Clapacs slotted the shot pasted goalkeeper Christie Zelnick.

The teams played to a 0-0 first half as both squads failed to convert on their scoring opportunities.  Oberlin started the second half strong with a few dangerous runs, but then the Yellow Jackets took control and stepped up the offensive pressure.  Baldwin Wallace tallied 10 second half shots, 14 overall, while Oberlin took six shots in total.

Zelnick had a solid game in goal by amassing seven saves, including several outstretch deflections to keep Oberlin in the match.  Junior Joelle Sesar was an offensive threat for the Yeowomen taking three shots and creating dangerous scoring opportunities.  Baldwin Wallace had five corner kicks while Oberlin had one attempt.

The Yeowomen return to action in a non-conference match-up at John Carroll University on September 15 at 4:00 p.m. The contest will be televised by SportsTime Ohio.
