October 7, 2006 -- The Oberlin College women’s soccer team lost a disappointing game in overtime to Earlham College this afternoon, 0-1. The loss was the Yeowomen’s fourth in a row and drops their record to 4-7-1 (0-2 NCAC), while the Quakers improved to 7-4 (2-1 NCAC).
With the game tied through regulation at 0-0, the teams headed into overtime and the Quakers were able to sneak a shot past the Oberlin defense for the golden-goal victory. First-year Emily Roth took an outside shot for Earlham that slipped through the fingertips of first-year goalkeeper Sarah Grabinski.
The overtime goal broke a very close and evenly played match. The teams played back and forth, with each creating scoring chances. Oberlin had several quality opportunities, but was unable to convert and Earlham goalkeeper sophomore Natasha Kroma had three saves to blank the Yeowomen. Both teams took eight shots and had eight corner kicks.
The game was relatively high in fouls, with Oberlin receiving two yellow cards and Earlham receiving one. The Yeowomen committed seven fouls, while the Quakers were whistled for 14 fouls.
The Yeowomen will look to return to their winning ways when The College of Wooster visits Oberlin for an NCAC showdown on October 11 at 4:30 p.m.
