Oberlin Suffers Defeat in Final Game on West Coast Swing

The Oberlin College women’s lacrosse team concluded its three game spring break swing to the west coast Friday evening losing to University of Puget Sound.

The Yeowomen trailed by five goals at the half 9-4, they did however pick up their offensive productivity scoring six during the second stanza.  At the final whistle Puget Sound topped the scoreboard 21-10.  With the loss Oberlin’s two game winning streak was halted.

First-year Taylor Fey continues to be an offensive weapon for the Yeowomen lacrosse team.  In tonight’s contest she recorded five goals and one assist.  Fey garnered twenty goals during the three game span.

Midfielders Scarlett Prati and Dana Rich recorded two goals, one assist and a goal and an assist, respectively.  Maggie Casey a junior defender from California recorded her first two collegiate goals against Puget Sound, hitting once on a great try from 8-meters.

Head coach Deb Ranieri said, “the score line may not indicate it but the team played a better defensive game through the midfield, we just made a few mistakes.  We were unable to get the ball off the draw and were beaten to groundballs.”

Kaitlin Barrer spent the entire 60 minutes in the cage registering 22 saves.  She also came up big leading the team with six ground balls.  The Yeowomen were out shot 52-26 on the evening and were out played to 21-16 to ground balls.

Ranieri noted, “the week was good, going 2-1 against opponents from the west coast, we made improvements, know what we have to work on and should be ready for the conference season.”

The Yeowomen travel back to Oberlin on Saturday and will be in action April 1 as they travel to conference foe Denison University for a 4:30 p.m. start.
