April 5 – The Oberlin women’s lacrosse team stepped out this morning on a cold, grey field to play Ohio Wesleyan University in their fist home game of the season. The Yeowomen fought hard but fell 20- 9 to the Battling Bishops.
OWU scored their first few goals early in the game, but after a turn of events sophomore Maddie Fierstein found the back of the net off of a rebound and put Oberlin on the board. With six minutes left in the half junior Dana Rich scored, rushing the goal.
Although OWU scored the first goal of the second half, the Yeowomen did not give up. Freshman Taylor Fey scored the first of her two goals, which was the catalyst that Oberlin needed to get back into the game. Soon after sophomore Scarlett Prati scored, not one, not two, but three goals, and set the tone for the rest of the game.
Senior Kaitlin Barrer played goal keeper for this game and in the second half came out with the ball from many scrambles in front of the net. Newcomers to the team, junior Kira Rivera and sophomore Kayla Brandt also played very aggressively which helped slow down the OWU offense.
Scarlett Prati scored her fourth goal with less that one minute to play. The Yeowomen scored once more, giving Taylor Fey her third goal of the game, but OWU got the final say in this game scoring with one second left on the clock.
The Yeowomen travel to The College of Wooster on April 10 for another NCAC contest scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
