Oberlin Stays Hot With Win Over Linfield

Oberlin 15 – Linfield 9

March 26 – The Oberlin College women’s lacrosse team used sound defense and very efficient offense to breeze by Linfield College, 15-9 on Wednesday night.

For the second-straight game, first-year Taylor Fey led the Yeowomen in scoring as she posted five goals and two assists on the night. Beth Gula found the back of the cage four times, while sophomore Scarlett Prati added three goals and an assist. Junior Dana Rich also added two goals of her own.

Oberlin (2-2) controlled the game throughout – leading 8-4 at the half, but the Topcats didn’t go away quietly as they tied the game at nine with 13:45 to play.

However, the Yeowomen defense buckled down – holding Linfield scoreless the rest of the way.

“I was glad to see how we battled back from that point in the game when we had to deal with some adversity,” head coach Deb Ranieri said.

Kira Rivera secured the goalie cage the entire 60 minutes, registering seven saves in the game. Her defensive mates, Kayla Brandt and Grace Eginton, provided excellent support as they each picked up three groundballs.

Oberlin took 44 shots in the game - converting 12-of-35 shots into goals during the run of play, while cashing in 3-of-9 eight-meter attempts.

The Yeowomen will complete their Spring Break Trip against the University of Puget Sound on Friday. The opening draw is set to being at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST).
