Final Stats
April 1 – In their first conference game of the season, the Oberlin College women’s lacrosse team had a great effort, but came up short in a 21-13 defeat to Denison on Tuesday evening.
“We played much better than we did last Friday,” head coach Deb Ranieri said. “However, we didn’t take enough shots on offense and that was the difference today.”
Oberlin (2-4, 1-0 NCAC), which was out-shot 41-22, was led by Scarlett Prati with six goals as she was 6-of-9 on the day to go along with one assist. Reining NCAC Player of the Week, Taylor Fey continued her offensive production with four goals, one assist and a game-high six draw controls.
Maggie Casey contributed two goals, while sophomore Maddie Fierstein added her first collegiate goal.
OC fell behind 5-0 in the early going, before Prati got the Yeowomen on the board at the 16:11 mark. However, the Big Red responded by increasing their lead to 10-2 en route to claiming a 12-6 half-time advantage.
In the second half, Oberlin got as close as 13-9 on a goal by Casey with 25:46 to play, but Denison scored seven of the game’s next nine goals to prevent any chance of an OC comeback.
Kira Rivera controlled the goal in the first half – saving five shots, while Kaitlin Barrer took over in the second session to earn seven saves.
Oberlin will have a quick turnaround as it is set to do battle against SUNY-Fredonia on Thursday, April 3, at 4:30 p.m.
