Final Stats
April 19 - Senior Day for the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team didn’t turn out the way they would have liked as the Yeowomen fell to Colorado College 21-12 on Saturday afternoon.
Oberlin celebrated seniors Beth Gula and Kaitlin Barrer before the match up today. Both players were four-year starters for the Oberlin lacrosse team and were major forces on offense and in the midfield throughout their respective careers. Unfortunately, Gula was unable to play in the contest due to injury, but Barrer lead the team in their fight against the Colorado College Tigers.
First-year Taylor Fey led the Yeowomen in scoring as she found the back of the cage five times on the day with two coming off of free-position attempts. Sophomores Scarlett Prati and Caroline Walsh each added three goals in the game.
The first half was very fast paced and the Tigers came out scoring early and often, bringing in 11 goals. Oberlin tried to retaliate with a strong offensive as Fey, Walsh and Prati accounted for all five of Oberlin’s first-half goals.
In the second half Oberlin did not give up and after a time out called by coach Deb Ranieri, Fey was able to find the back of the Tiger’s net for one of her four second-half goals. However, the Tigers’ speed and agility proved to be too much for the Yeowomen overcome in the end.
Junior Kira Rivera got the start in the cage – tallying three saves in the first half, while Barrer took over in the second half – stopping five shots by the Tigers.
Oberlin will play its final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 23 when Kenyon College comes to town for a 4:30 p.m. match.
